Updated 2014 NBA Championship Futures

With the playoffs nearing it’s time to update the 2014 NBA Championship Futures. The Miami Heat remain the favorites, but the second favorite may surprise you as the Heat may finally have a contender in the East.

The Indiana Pacers find themselves with the second best odds to win the 2014 title at 13/4 behind the Miami Heat. They’ve done this behind the outstanding play of Paul George and the devastating defense front they put up each and every night. They put a little scare into the Heat in last season’s Eastern Conference Finals and have only improved themselves this year. They’ve been great all season, but could they really beat Lebron James and the Heat? I find that hard to believe.

Which is why the Heat are still the favorite to win it all at 9/4. There have been some stumbles this season and the Pacers are outpacing them for the top seed, but they don’t seem to be worried. The Heat know how to turn it on come playoff time and I’d be surprised not to see them back in the Finals.

The Thunder are looking scarier than ever this season and this could finally be their chance to breakthrough and grab that elusive ring. At 4/1 they are a solid bet with Kevin Durant having another MVP caliber season and the young core remaining healthy. There are questions about the coaching, but this team just has so much talent it’s hard to discount them.

Of course, the Thunder would need to make it through the Spurs to get there and they don’t look likely to give it up. I thought before the season that they would be troubled by their Finals loss and being another year older, but they have looked like a team possessed thus far this season. Kawhi Leonard has become a serious contributor and this team that plays like a team seems hellbent on revenge. The playoffs are long and difficult for any team to get through, but if anyone can do it it’s this Spurs team. Popovich has them amped and ready to compete for another championship. Don’t discount them at 11/2.

The Clippers remain an interesting team at 7/1. The advanced stats show them as one of the better teams in the league and this could be the year they make a leap out of the second round. I really like what Doc Rivers has done as coach of this team and he could end up being the missing ingredient to a championship run. These guys just seem ready to make some noise this year and I can’t wait to see what they do.
