2018 NBA Championship Odds

Congratulations to the Golden State Warriors on their 2017 NBA Championship. While we felt that this was going to happen all along, it was still great to see as the Warriors proved that they are one of the greatest teams of all-time. Kevin Durant played amazing, Stephen Curry proved he is still one of the best guards in the NBA and the rest of the cast did great. Draymond Green, Klay Thompson and Andre Iguodala take this group from great team to next level team and it was great to see them working at full strength. Congratulations, you earned it.

Of course, there is a lot of talk about whether or not this is “good” for the NBA. Funny, I don’t remember people doing this in the days of the Michael Jordan Bulls. Maybe people just like to complain about things now. Still, the Warriors opening as a -175 favorite to win the 2018 takes a bit of the fun out of the offseason.

That doesn’t mean there won’t be moves. There are tons of rumors about the Cavs making a move for Jimmy Butler, possibly trading Kevin Love. That would be a lateral move in the regular season in my opinion, but for the match-up with the Warriors it gets interesting. LeBron James and Kyrie Irving are two of the best in the game and part four of this series wouldn’t be a bad thing. There’s a reason the Cavs are the second favorite at +350. LeBron James teams go to the Finals. Period.

The only other teams with a decent chance in these odds are the Celtics +1200 and the Spurs +1200. Of course, things can always change. Paul George is on the trading block. Gordon Hayward is a free agent. The Celtics have all the draft picks and all the trade chips. Blake Griffin and Chris Paul could possibly move. The NBA will shift this offseason as teams try to make moves to compete with the two juggernauts.

On the other end of the spectrum, the Kings have no chance at +50000. They already traded away DeMarcus Cousins and now Rudy Gay is leaving. It’s going to be a long time before they move up the ranks.

The 76ers are finally starting to do so at +10000 for them. Still very unlikely, but Joel Embiid, Dario Saric, Ben Simmons and possibly Markelle Fultz make them a real team and a possible playoff contender. All it took was four years of tanking. A roster like that might have people thinking that it would be a good idea to try what they did.
