The Philadelphia 76ers have shed another player from the Sam Hinke era as they have traded Nerlens Noel to the Dallas Mavericks for Justin Anderson, Andrew Bogut and a first round pick that is protected 1-to-18 in this June’s draft. There is currently no word on if it will carryover if it is not conveyed this season.

Of course, that is no guarantee with the Pelicans making the big move for DeMarcus Cousins and the Denver Nuggets not going away. Still, the Mavs are better today than they were yesterday.
This is a move that the 76ers likely had to make as their frontcourt has been way overloaded for some time now with Noel, Jahlil Okafor and Joel Embiid all needing minutes to develop. Everyone thought that it would be Okafor who moved and that is still possible, but the best offer was for Noel right now as Dallas has been after him for some time now.
It is rumored that the 76ers will quickly deal Andrew Bogut before the deadline as well. The Celtics have been interested as they have one of the best teams in the East, but lack rebounding and defensive toughness on the interior. That is Bogut in a nutshell. The question of this one is how much do the 76ers need for him and can the Celtics get it done. There are lots of rumors linking Paul George or Jimmy Butler to the Celtics and that should be their 100% focus right now. Those deals could go down to the wire and might make it so Bogut doesn’t get moved to them. He is also a buyout candidate where he would have a lot of interest.
Justin Anderson was the Mavericks draft pick last year and does offer some interesting upside. It was surprising to see the Mavericks move him as they moved Jae Crowder a couple years ago and that move has not worked out well for them. Moving young wing players is never a smart move because they often develop and you will end up regretting it. See Crowder. See Tony Snell. See tons of players.
This is just the beginning of what should be a crazy day of trades. I love this move for the Mavericks as I think that Noel will fit great with their team and the coaching of Rick Carlisle should make him an even better player than he already is. I don’t know quite what Philly gets from this, but as we just said there is potential in Justin Anderson.
