2019 Minnesota Timberwolves Win Total Betting Odds

I have been putting this one off for awhile as I was hoping there would be some sort of resolution to the ugly Jimmy Butler situation. His demand for a trade has definitely created a rift in this franchise that may not be healed. The win total is set at 44.5 wins, but that number seems almost possible for them to come close to. They are either going to be much better (doubtful) or much worse, after a trade. This is one case where talent is being outweighed by the personalities and drama surrounding the team.

People forget, but before Jimmy Butler got hurt last season this was one of the top-3 teams in the Western Conference. When he was healthy, they were playing at that level. His injury issues took them out of that and they ended up fighting for a playoff spot. With Butler, this is quite a good team.

Andrew Wiggins
Karl-Anthony Towns
Jimmy Butler
Jeff Teague
Taj Gibson
Derrick Rose
Anthony Tolliver
Tyus Jones
Gorgui Dieng
Josh Okogie
Luol Deng
Justin Patton
Darius Johnson-Odom
James Nunnally
Keita Bates-Diop
Jonathan Stark
C.J. Williams  (TW)
Jared Terrell  (TW)

Of course, that team is now gone. Even if Butler comes back, the rifts between him and Karl-Anthony Towns and Andrew Wiggins are huge. They are different personalities, from different eras and the fact coach Tom Thiboadeau is seemingly on the side of Butler, that’s not a good thing. The stars are fighting, the owner and the coach/President are in disagreement, and it’s all a mess.

This is a tough situation as Thibodeau was brought in to win, to make the playoffs and he did that. He did that by trading for Butler, but now Butler wants out and he’s trying to do his job which is to make the playoffs. He doesn’t want to let him up and that’s causing major issues with Towns and Wiggins.

Make no mistake, Towns and Wiggins are the future of this team. The more Towns develops, the higher the ceiling for this team is. They should be careful not to anger him as if he requests a trade out of Minnesota, that would be very bad for the future of this team.

On paper, it feels like the best thing to do is trade Butler and start over with the development of Wiggins and Towns. Get some pieces that fit better with them and build them all together. That said, the coach wants to win and the owner wants to win. I don’t know what’s going to happen here.

I do believe that if Butler gets traded that it’ll be for about fifty cents on the dollar and that should known the Wolves out of contention in the tough Western Conference. They won’t get a player who can match his production on both ends and that will be that. Maybe Thibodeau will be fired and the Wolves will be back where they’ve always been.

This story has no winners. The best thing to do is just take the under on the win total and move on. This team isn’t worth it.
