NBA 2015-16 Futures as of June 25th, 2015

Bovada has released their NBA futures in the wake of the Warriors championship win and their favorite is… the loser of that series, the Cleveland Cavaliers. The 2015 NBA Champion Golden State Warriors are the second most favorit team by betting standards.

It’s easy to see why the Cavaliers are in this position. Despite losing both Kevin Love and Kyrie Irving they made it to the Finals and gave the Warriors all they had before breaking down over the last two games. If those players are able to come back healthy and Lebron James continues to be the best player on earth there is no reason to think that they won’t be right back in the thick of things. Plus, with the East look to be significantly worse again next season it’s hard to imagine anyone else coming out of that conference.

The West, of course, is another story completely as the Warriors had (what some would call) perfect luck to get them to the NBA Finals this season with the Thunder being injured and missing the playoffs, Wes Matthews injury killing Portland, not having to face the Spurs or the Clippers and facing a beat-up Rockets team in the Western Conference Finals. Personally, I think that the injuries and everything else didn’t matter in the end as this was the Warriors season from start to finish. They were the best team and they won it all.

It’ll be interesting to see what next season brings as there is sure to be some big moves in the offseason with LaMarcus Aldridge rumored to be making a move. One hotly rumored location is San Antonio where the Spurs are currently 10/1 favorites. If they end up signing him I could easily see that number changing to something closer to the Warriors 4/1. That is a scary team to think about and a scary scenario for the Portland Trailblazers who could go from one of the best teams in the NBA just a couple months ago to a lottery team.

Another interesting team is the Thunder who are the third favorite at 15/2. The history of superstar players having major foot issues is not good in the NBA, but apparently bookmakers are expecting a full recovery from Kevin Durant. We sure hope so, but the odds are not in his favor. I think the Thunder could be really scary next season, but it all hinges on Durant. Westbrook is a dynamic player, but Durant is the one that makes that whole system work.
