2018 NBA Championship Odds

The playoffs start Saturday so it is now time for our final NBA Championship odds update before the playoffs. The odds haven’t changed much and despite the injury concerns with Stephen Curry and the Rockets, the Warriors are still the favorite to win this thing.

Top NBA Sportsbooks
You can actually get the Rockets at 2/1 at BetOnline which is pretty good odds for the #1 team of the regular season. The Warriors seem to think that they can “turn it on” when the playoffs start, but that is a dangerous game to play. They aren’t the same without Curry and he will be out until at least the second round. They should handle the Spurs in the first round, but the second round could go longer than they’d like and they could be exhausted by the Western Conference Finals. I’m definitely taking a believe it when I see it approach to the Rockets, but that is pretty good odds for what was the best team in the regular season with two bonafide MVP-level superstars in Chris Paul and James Harden.

The Eastern Conference teams rightfully are getting no respect, but if the Cavaliers somehow put it together in the coming weeks then Bovada could regret that +855 line on them. That is, of course, a big IF but when LeBron James is involved anything is possible.

Golden State Warriors+135  +140
Houston Rockets+160  +202
Cleveland Cavaliers+650  +855
Toronto Raptors+850  +1125
Philadelphia 76ers+1500  +1650
Oklahoma City Thunder+2500  +4000
Portland Trail Blazers+3300  +5500
Utah Jazz+4500  +7000
San Antonio Spurs+6000  +10000
Boston Celtics+7000  +10000
Minnesota Timberwolves+9000  +25000
Washington Wizards+10000  +20000
Milwaukee Bucks+10000  +25000
New Orleans Pelicans+10000  +25000
Indiana Pacers+10000  +30000
Miami Heat+12500  +30000

With every team at the 50-game mark of the season, we thought it was a good time to take a look at the NBA Championship Odds. The Warriors have been as good as we expected, but Cleveland has really struggled this year and their choke hold on the Eastern Conference seems at risk. Additionally, the Warriors may have their biggest test yet in the West as the Rockets have been amazing this season.

Top NBA Sportsbooks
You’ll see the updated odds below. The Warriors are a big favorite right now at -207. Compare this to December of last year when they were -110 and the Warriors seem more of a favorite than ever this season.

The Cavs +620 and Rockets +670 are the only other viable contenders by the odds right now. The Celtics at +1200 could come out of the Eastern Conference, but they aren’t quite at that level yet and the result seems obvious if they were to face the Warriors.

I’m surprised to see the lack of respect the Spurs +2650 and Raptors +2650 are getting. The Raptors are the current two seed in the East with a clear path to #1, they’ve also played a lot better than any version of this team we’ve seen over the past couple of years. I could see them coming out of the West, but much like Boston it’s hard to see them giving the Warriors a series.

Congratulations to the Golden State Warriors on their 2017 NBA Championship. While we felt that this was going to happen all along, it was still great to see as the Warriors proved that they are one of the greatest teams of all-time. Kevin Durant played amazing, Stephen Curry proved he is still one of the best guards in the NBA and the rest of the cast did great. Draymond Green, Klay Thompson and Andre Iguodala take this group from great team to next level team and it was great to see them working at full strength. Congratulations, you earned it.

Of course, there is a lot of talk about whether or not this is “good” for the NBA. Funny, I don’t remember people doing this in the days of the Michael Jordan Bulls. Maybe people just like to complain about things now. Still, the Warriors opening as a -175 favorite to win the 2018 takes a bit of the fun out of the offseason.

That doesn’t mean there won’t be moves. There are tons of rumors about the Cavs making a move for Jimmy Butler, possibly trading Kevin Love. That would be a lateral move in the regular season in my opinion, but for the match-up with the Warriors it gets interesting. LeBron James and Kyrie Irving are two of the best in the game and part four of this series wouldn’t be a bad thing. There’s a reason the Cavs are the second favorite at +350. LeBron James teams go to the Finals. Period.

The only other teams with a decent chance in these odds are the Celtics +1200 and the Spurs +1200. Of course, things can always change. Paul George is on the trading block. Gordon Hayward is a free agent. The Celtics have all the draft picks and all the trade chips. Blake Griffin and Chris Paul could possibly move. The NBA will shift this offseason as teams try to make moves to compete with the two juggernauts.

On the other end of the spectrum, the Kings have no chance at +50000. They already traded away DeMarcus Cousins and now Rudy Gay is leaving. It’s going to be a long time before they move up the ranks.

The 76ers are finally starting to do so at +10000 for them. Still very unlikely, but Joel Embiid, Dario Saric, Ben Simmons and possibly Markelle Fultz make them a real team and a possible playoff contender. All it took was four years of tanking. A roster like that might have people thinking that it would be a good idea to try what they did.
